Alicante Provincial Council Grants Major Sports Subsidies to 869 Athletes Across the Province

Board of Directors of the Alicante Provincial Council approved three substantial sports aid initiatives designed to be distributed remotely. A total of 750,000 euros will reach more than a thousand athletes from across the province.

One portion of the plan earmarks 390,000 euros to support Alicante’s elite athletes with the training and preparation costs needed for various competitions. The initiative aims to acknowledge the hard work shown over the season and the potential these athletes demonstrate on behalf of the region.

A total of 869 athletes will benefit from this investment. The spokesperson for the sports portfolio emphasized the goal of recognizing effort and the positive projection the athletes have for the future in the province of Alicante.

Sports disciplines included in the funding span basketball, handball, volleyball, cycling, judo, taekwondo, rowing, sailing, swimming, tennis, badminton, Valencia pilota, golf, athletics, gymnastics, water polo, football, figure skating, Olympic shooting, and adapted sports. These are among the activities supported by this budget item of the Provincial Council.

It is also planned to cover near 350 Alicante athletes traveling to Technical and High Performance Centers, with costs reaching 250,000 euros.

Among the beneficiaries are notable names such as padelsurfer Rafa Shirvent, beach volleyball player Paula Soria, fronton Lidia Simon, track cyclist Alejandro Martínez Chorro, and taekwondo athlete Raul Martinez, all set to participate in official international competitions under this investment package.

Elche taekwondo practitioner Raúl Martínez is also listed among the beneficiaries (RFET).

Third call confirmed, funding will also support motorcycle and motor racing drivers, with 100,000 euros distributed among 31 engineers and professionals, including Alberto and José Javier Pérez Briones, Lydia Sempere, Nicolás Cabanes, Alberto Ferrández, and David Braceras.

Elche’s Raúl Martínez earned silver at the European Taekwondo Championships.

The plan’s proponents highlight the importance of these subsidy programs in fostering the careers of many Alicante sports professionals, providing essential support for continued training and competition.
