Alicante Launches First-Ever Prosolia Alicante Female Race as a Community Tribute to Women

Alicante is launching its inaugural women-focused race, a Prosolia Alicante Female event designed as a heartfelt tribute to female athletes. Scheduled for March 26, the competition is structured into three gender-inclusive modalities: racing, Nordic walking, and walking, inviting participants of all levels to celebrate athletic spirit together.

Led by former Olympic competitor Jose Manuel Albentosa, who co-organizes with Run Run!, the route spans 4.5 kilometers along a notably approachable circuit that circles the Pau 5 neighborhood in Alicante. The organizers describe the event as a welcoming tribute that emphasizes accessibility for everyone, with plans to attract a large turnout. Albentosa expressed confidence that the celebration will be vibrant and visually striking, noting expectations of at least 1,000 competitors and a procession of orange attire among participants to symbolize solidarity for the cause.

In assessing the broader context of women in sports within the region, the organizers highlighted notable progress in Alicante. They pointed to participation trends in recent years: women accounted for 18% of finishers at the Alicante Half Marathon in 2021, rising to 27% the following year, a share that surpasses the national marathon average. These figures reflect a steady increase in female representation across local events, underscoring a growing trend toward greater gender parity in athletics.

The initiative is backed by the Alicante City Council’s Equality and Sports Department, with Equality Councillor María Conejero underscoring the mission to support, elevate, and defend the role of women in all spheres of society. The collaboration aims to illuminate female achievements and ensure ongoing visibility and participation in sports and community life, reinforcing messages of inclusion and empowerment [Source: City Council Equality and Sports Department, Alicante].
