As the crowd at Montmeló roared, tensions rose with a major accident at Turn 1. The crash involved several riders, including Spaniards Alex Márquez and a cluster of Ducati riders such as Johann Zarco, Enea Bastianini, Fabio Di Giannantonio, and Marco Bezzecchi.

The calendar also notes the Catalan round as a pivotal moment in the season.

In a tense moment at the next corner, Bagnaia, the World Championship leader, lost control of his bike and crashed. South African Brad Binder, riding a KTM, could not avoid contact with the incident and went down as well. Bagnaia was promptly attended to by the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya medical team and withdrew from the race.
