Alcoyano continues unstoppably as the leader of the second group of the First RFEF. Parras’ team has 13 of the 15 possible points in the first five days of the league and is unbeaten. They have three consecutive wins with 1-2 wins against Real Unión in Irún.
On this occasion, the game was conditioned by the soft state of the grass with some puddles due to the morning rain. This has hurt both teams: Real Unión, Alcoyano for their usual possession-based play and the quick passes that characterize their football.
Maybe that’s why even in the first ten minutes of the game, with a Real Unión trying to surprise their opponent with high pressure, until the Alcoy team took the lead on the scoreboard with a penalty kick in the first goal. From then on, dominance and danger belonged to Parras’ team. Responsible for giving the maximum penalty was Agüero, the same player shot inside the field.
In the next 35 minutes of the first half, Real Unión was good on defense but not on offense. Alcoyano tried twice to re-pierce the opposing goal. One with a good cross from Alcaina cleared by the local keeper at 24 minutes, and the other with a good collective move, again starring Irazusta, which ended with a shot by Varela at 35 minutes.
The first episode had no more history. It was necessary to wait for the second term to see if the meeting changed anything or kept its dynamic. Making the first move, Aitor Zulaika made two changes at halftime and soon after, expecting a reaction from his team. Vicente Parras should be happy with what happened on the pitch because he chose not to change anything until the 61st minute when he made the first substitution.
As the minutes passed, the match stabilized once again and Real Unión even found scoring opportunities, such as a direct free kick kicked off by Oyarzun, forcing Bañuz to clear with his fingertips. The local team’s prominence allowed them to have more possession, but also created more gaps that Alcoyano was trying to successfully exploit.
The insistence of the locals never to be disbanded by Alcoy’s early goal earned a spectacular 75th minute reward, as Sánchez’s equalizer was a real goal that went through the entire team from outside the field.
The Irun team got what they were looking for, a draw. A goal that once again awakened Parras’ team, who immediately went up to find the opposing goal. The party opened up more than ever in those moments, and anything could happen. And Juanan made the situation 1-2 with another shot from outside the area, showing maximum effectiveness in a second period where he was in control of the locals.
With this win, like at least the previous four, Alcoyano remains in the lead and will host Atletico Baleares the next day.
