Various large Chinese brands, including Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus, negotiate the development of his own mobile operating system, which will replace Android. This was reported by Insider sources close to companies. The main goal is to reduce dependence on American technologies against the background of growing trade controls between Beijing and Washington.
The reason for such plans was the experience of Huawei, who, after American sanctions in 2019, lost access to Google Services and Android Ecosystem. This forced the company to create Harmonyos – its own operating system, which is now being used for more than 1 billion devices. Huawei’s success probably inspired competitors to look for similar solutions.

Xiaomi, who takes second place in the world for the sale of smartphones on Android, can become a pioneer. According to the data, the company already tests Hyperos 3, where the share of Google Services will gradually decrease. A complete rejection of Android, however, is still considered a risky step: without known applications and services, notice can lose part of the audience outside of China, especially in developing countries.
Experts suggest that the transition will be phased. For example, manufacturers can at the same time develop their own app stores and API interfaces to ultimately create a fully-fledged alternative. Another option is to combine efforts with Huawei to promote Harmonyos, which has proven all its viability. One thing is clear – the era of the unconditional dominance of Google in the mobile industry is to approach a turning point.
