Nintendo started a test against the Genki accessories manufacturer and accused the use of unofficial data on the technical characteristics of the future Switch 2 console. The lawsuit brought on 2 May at the California court was a reaction to Genki, who, in the opinion of the Japanese giant, violated copyright and mislead consumers.
The reason for the conflict was the Genki presentation on the CES 2025 exhibition, where the company demonstrated 3D accessories, explained as compatible with Switch 2. At the same time, the console itself was not officially announced. Nintendo emphasized that she did not shared technical information with Genki, and all data about the new device used by the manufacturer are based on hearing. The company called the “illegal receipt of information” or deliberate deception.
The special dissatisfaction of Nintendo caused the provocative steps of Genki. For example, a photo with the signature appeared in the social networks of the company: “Genki-Ninja penetrated the Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto”-a hint of access to Insider information. Moreover, the day before the expected announcement of Switch 2 Genki she held her own presentation in the Nintendo Direct Style, which, according to the copyright holder, could mislead the public.
Nintendo demanded to stop selling accessories, destroying products with its trademarks and payment compensation, the size of which can be increased three times. Genki said that they seriously observe the lawsuit and already work with lawyers, but have not announced any details. At the same time, the company continues to prepare for the Pax East exhibition, where it is planning to present new products.
