The Duolingo educational platform announced a large -scale transformation, making artificial intelligence the basis of his strategy. In a letter to employees, general manager Luis von AHN explained that the company will gradually refuse to attract contractors for tasks that AI can perform.
Von and emphasized that the current changes resemble the transition from the company to mobile technologies in 2012, which became a key factor in its growth. Now a similar strategy applies to AI: instead of point improvements, system solutions are introduced, including the mandatory use of algorithms by employees and taking this criterion into account when evaluating their work.

Despite the reduction in a number of external contracts, Duolingo announced their intention to support teams through training with AI, mentoring and the provision of new tools. The tendency to automate processes is observed at other companies. For example, Shopify has previously introduced a rule that requires employees to prove the impossibility to replace the requested positions of AI. Experts note that such steps become a reaction to the growing requirements for the speed and scalability of services.
Duolingo said we are not talking about the complete replacement of people with algorithms. The main goal is to redistribute resources by releasing the time of employees to solve complex problems, where creativity and research are required.
