Roskomnadzor considers the possibility to limit access to foreign hosting providers who ignore the requirements of Russian legislation. This can lead to the fact that domestic sites on their servers will no longer open to users in the Russian Federation. This was reported in the Department’s press service.
Since 2021, Russia has been in force in Russia, which is obliged to ensure data security, collaborate with the Center for Monitoring Network threats to combat DDOS attacks and to participate in measures to strengthen the resistance of the internet. In addition, providers must be included in a special register. However, it turned out that 12 foreign companies have not yet met these conditions and that Russian organizations continue to serve.

In Roskomnadzor they emphasized that the use of foreign hosting risks is for companies and users. For example, suppliers can stop serving the site at any time due to internal solutions or political reasons, making the source inaccessible. Also, data on foreign servers are often not sufficiently protected against leaks, which threatens the confidentiality of information. Another problem was mentioned the possible use of sites for bypassing Russian locks, which increases the chance of getting the site on the black list.
The Department reminded that it has no opportunity to protect resources on foreign servers against cyber attacks, making them vulnerable to attackers. As a solution, it is recommended to transfer sites to Russian hosting, where local laws are observed. If restrictions for foreign providers are introduced, not only their services will be threatened, but also the availability of dozens of Russian sites.
