Figure skater Margarita Drobyazko, who ice-dancing with her husband, Povilas Vanagas, is about to be stripped of her Lithuanian citizenship. This has been reported TASS.
According to the source, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will support the deprivation of nationality of figure skaters Margarita Drobyazko and Povilas Vanagas from Lithuanian state awards and Drobyazko’s intentions to perform at Tatiana Navka’s Swan Lake ice show in Sochi. The relevant proposal has already been made by Stasis Shedbaras, head of the parliamentary law and order commission.
Drobiazko was born in Moscow but received Lithuanian citizenship to compete in the Olympics with his partner, Povilas Vanagas. In 2000, he was recognized as a Knight of the Order of Gediminas, the Grand Duke of Lithuania.
Recall that the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competition. ISU announced this decision with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This decision was approved at the ISU congress in early June. It is of uncertain nature.
