This process has been going on for several months. Zenit had already sent a request on the issue to the Russian Football Union and prepared a positive reference for Santos. The football player who receives the Russian Federation passport will play in the Russian national team and will no longer be accepted as a foreign player in the Russian Premier League.

Zenit has another Brazilian player with a Russian passport, Claudinho. Brazilian Malcom also received Russian citizenship, but from Zenit he moved to the Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Douglas Santos has been with St. Petersburg since the summer of 2019. He plays for the St. Petersburg club. After the transfer, he signed a 5-year contract. In 2016, as a member of the Brazilian national team, the defender won the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Having won the last six matches of the Russian Championship, Zenit defeated Akron (5-0) and once again ranked first in the Russian Premier League. The team has 29 points. Krasnodar and Lokomotiv are next with 27 points, but they have not played their 12th round matches yet. In the next round of RPL, Zenit will host the capital’s Lokomotiv at home.
