Despite the decline in audience, YouTube still ranks first among video services in Russia. According to Mediascope, the video hosting site lost five million users in a year, causing its audience to drop from 52 to 47 million people. However, this loss did not impact the platform’s dominance in the video content segment.
In second place among video hosting sites is VK Video with 36.8 million users, followed by Rutube (5.5 million) and Kinopoisk (4.1 million). However, analysts warn that if current YouTube access issues continue, the platform could lose another 20-30% of its audience.

It is interesting that, despite YouTube’s problems, its position in the rankings of the most visited Internet resources in Russia has not changed. It still ranks sixth, after such giants as WhatsApp, Yandex, Google, Telegram and VKontakte. Experts also note the growing popularity of competitors: in particular, the number of users of Telegram increased by 8 million, and that of VKontakte by 2 million.
Although YouTube’s audience continues to decline, experts are confident that the platform will be able to retain a significant portion of users due to the sheer volume of content unless there are major changes to the service’s availability.
