Russian track and field athlete Anastasia Solovyova said that Russians are doing the right thing as they head to the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. The athlete was quoted as saying “Match TV”.
“Of course it was worth it, an indescribable feeling and emotion. It was definitely worth fighting and proving that we can do anything,” said Solovyova.
The 27-year-old athlete finished seventh in the 200 meters and sixth in the 400 meters.
The Russian team has now won 64 awards, including 20 gold, 21 silver and 23 bronze. A total of 88 Russian Paralympians are competing in the French capital. The games will run until September 8.
On 6 March, the International Paralympic Committee published criteria that would allow Russian Paralympic athletes to compete at the Games only in neutral status. Russian athletes will not be able to attend the opening and closing ceremonies, and their medals will not be included in the standings. Russian athletes did not attend the opening ceremonies, but the Paris Paralympic organizing committee invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to the closing ceremony.
