The Russian Football Union (RFU) said that a friendly match between the Russian and Thai national teams scheduled to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam, has been cancelled due to the cyclone. The relevant message appeared here: Telegram– organization channel.
“The decision was made taking into account the amount of rainfall that has already fallen and the weather forecast for the next 24 hours in Hanoi. Local authorities also recommend that residents of the Vietnamese capital stay at home and refrain from going out, the RFU statement said.
The game was supposed to be played on September 7 at 16:00 Moscow time.
On the eve of the Vietnam Ministry of Emergency Situations warned Residents in Hanoi are concerned about the approaching cyclone. This typhoon is expected to be the strongest in recent years.
On September 5, the Russian team played a friendly match with Vietnam. The match ended with a score of 3:0 for Valery Karpin’s team. The first goal in this match was scored by French Le Havre midfielder Daler Kuzyaev in the 24th minute. In the 62nd minute of the second half, Vietnamese defender Van Thanh Vu scored an own goal. The final score was determined by CSKA forward Tamerlan Musaev in the 77th minute.
Before that, the Russian national team played two friendly matches in 2024. In March, they defeated Serbia 4-0 in Moscow and in June, they defeated Belarus by a similar score in Minsk. Before that, the Russian team won a crushing victory over Cuban footballers in 2023 with a score of 8:0.
In the spring of 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations, following the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee, decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team, as well as all Russian clubs, in all competitions controlled by these organizations. The Russians missed the play-offs for the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
