Russian goalkeeper Yaroslav Askarov has signed a new contract with the National Hockey League (NHL) San Jose Sharks. It was reported official website club.
The new deal is for two years and will come into effect from the 2025/26 season. According to this contract, the 22-year-old goalkeeper will earn $2 million per year. However, in the 2024/25 season, the player will remain in the position under his previous contract.
The other day, it became known that Askarov was traded from the Nashville Predators, where he made his NHL debut in the 2022/23 season, to San Jose. At that time, the player failed to hold down a goal and played for Nashville’s farm club, the Milwaukee Admirals, for two years. As a result, he also approached the Predators management with a trade request.
San Jose is confident in the abilities and prospects of the newcomer. The club’s general manager Mike Greer spoke about Askarov’s good playing qualities.
“Yaroslav is a goalie who has everything it takes to be a starting goalie on an NHL team. He has shown his showmanship, vision and athletic ability in recent seasons. He is a strong young player on our goaltending team and we are excited to have him as a part of our club,” Greer said.
