The Moscow City Court rejected the appeal of German journalist Hajo Seppelt and upheld the decision of the Nikulinsky Court in the case of Russian figure skater doctor Philip Shvetsky. This is reported by TASS.
Initially, Shvetsky filed a lawsuit against Seppelt over a video in which the journalist hinted at the doctor’s possible role in doping the body of figure skater Kamila Valieva. The lawsuit was filed on July 26, 2023, and on January 24, 2024, the court ordered Seppelt to refute the facts and recover one ruble from him. On February 29, Seppelt filed an appeal, which was rejected.
On January 29, 2024, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found Valieva guilty of doping and disqualified her. She will not be able to compete in tournaments until December 2025. She will also not be able to train at state ice rinks.
On February 7, 2024, CAS published the justification for the Valieva case. In the skater’s blood, in addition to the banned trimetazidine, three permitted substances were found: ecdysterone, hypoxene and L-carnitine, as well as more than 50 supplements.
The figure skater was deprived of the gold medal of the Russian and European Championships, as well as the gold medal of the Olympic Games in Beijing in the team tournament. The Russian team took the bronze, the USA the gold, and Japan the silver.
