Journalist and commentator Dmitry Guberniev summed up the results of the 2024 Summer Olympics for Russian athletes and praised the athletes for their struggle. His words are instructive “Soviet sport”.
“It’s a shame to be one step away from a medal several times, if we take into account single canoeing, double canoeing and Bladtseva. We are happy for the tennis players, but in terms of medals this is a completely uninformative story; we had a small team. Let’s go, well done, we fought as much as we could,” Guberniev said.
Fifteen athletes went to France as neutrals. Only Russian tennis players, 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva and 20-year-old Diana Schneider, managed to achieve success. They won the silver medal in doubles, losing to Italians Sarra Errani and Yasmin Paolini in the final of the tournament.
The International Olympic Committee, which suspended Russia and Belarus in February 2022 due to the start of the SVO at the end of 2023, decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes for the 2024 Summer Olympics. In order to participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
Previously at the Olympics mixed Flags of Tajikistan and Thailand at the awards ceremony.
