Russian canoeist Alexey Korovashkov announced that he plans to participate in the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. The athlete’s words are quoted “Match TV”.
“Yes! I’m 32 years old but I can still race,” said the canoeist.
On August 8, Korovashkov, paired with Zakhar Petrov, failed to win a medal in the 500-meter two-man canoeing event. In the final race, the Russians also finished fourth.
In the qualifying round held on August 6, Petrov and Korovashkov finished first, half a second ahead of their nearest rivals from Italy. They also finished first in the semi-final round.
The International Olympic Committee, which suspended Russia and Belarus in February 2022 due to the start of the SVO at the end of 2023, decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes for the 2024 Summer Olympics. In order to participate, they had to meet a number of conditions and qualify.
Dmitry Guberniev earlier named Russian canoeists as Olympic heroes.
