Russian swimmer Evgenia Chikunova reacted to the news that she will be declared a two-time Olympic champion. The athlete’s words are quoted “Match TV”.
“For me, only seconds always come first. My main achievement is the official world record and my goal is to improve as a result. That’s all I think about when I go to the start,” said the swimmer.
At the Russian Cup final in Kazan, 19-year-old Chikunova swam the 100m and 200m breaststroke faster than South African Tatyana Smith and American Kate Douglas, the winners of the 2024 Games, in these distances.
The Olympic Games began on July 26, with competitions running through August 11. The opening ceremony took place on the Seine River. Russian athletes, who compete in the Summer Olympics as neutrals, did not attend the ceremony.
