The founder of also -La Doug Suttles, known as the creator of Speedtest, introduced the new ORB application, which analyzes the quality of the internet connection deeper than just the speed measurement. The service evaluates the stability of the network, taking into account delays, data loss and other parameters so that users can solve problems in advance.
According to the maker, classic speed tests only analyze surface data. ORB monitors the condition of the network in real time. The application analyzes three important aspects:
- Responsiveness – a combination of signal delay, Jitter (vibrations) and loss of data packages;
- Reliability – how the quality of communication changes over time;
- Speed- standard drawers and unloading indicators.
Based on this data, the ORB forms an estimate of 0 to 100. The result above 80 means a stable connection, 70-80 – possible small disruptions, and below 70 – obvious problems. If the indicator does not reach the “green zone”, the application offers tips to improve the connection using AI algorithms to analyze the causes.
ORB is available on iOS, Android, PC and even devices such as Raspberry Pi or Steam Deck. For advanced users there is an option for joint monitoring: you can connect another person to his orbu so that he receives notifications of problems with your internet.
Sattles notes that ORB remains free for individuals. It is planned to make money with the project through license technologies on internet providers and companies that need a detailed analysis of networks. The plans include the implementation of functions to check the availability of specific services such as Zoom or Google Drive, which will help to diagnose errors more accurately.
Until now, the ORB focuses on the technical public, but the developers hope that a simple interface and a visual assessment will make the service popular with ordinary users who will make sudden communication cliffs tired.
