French swimmer Leon Marchand won the 400-meter medley final, breaking the Olympic record held by legendary American Michael Phelps for 16 years.
Marchand swam the distance in 4 minutes, 2.95 seconds, setting an Olympic record. The previous record was 4 minutes, 3.84 seconds. Marchand also holds the world record with a time of 4 minutes, 2.50 seconds. Marchand achieved this feat in 2023.
