Russian fighter of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Alexander Volkov will meet again in the octagon with the promotion’s former interim heavyweight champion, Frenchman Cyril Gan. The portal reports this AllBoxing.
Citing multiple sources, the publication emphasizes that news of the fight has not yet been officially confirmed. However, the Volkov-Gan fight is expected to take place on the main card of UFC 308, which will take place on October 26 in Abu Dhabi.
Volkov and Gan first met in June 2021, after which the French fighter won by unanimous decision – 50-45, 50-45, 49-46. Gan then won the UFC interim title thanks to his victory over Derrick Lewis, but later lost the title after losing to Francis Ngannou.
On June 23, Volkov defeated his compatriot Sergei Pavlovich by unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 29-28. After the fight, he approached Pavlovich to thank him, but Pavlovich pushed him away.
Before the fight, there was also a mutual staring duel between the athletes. The reason for the disagreement between the Russian athletes was the argument over who would fight first. Only the president of the Absolute Fighting Championship, Dana White, was able to stop the conflict.
Volkov has fought 48 fights in his career, winning 38. Pavlovich has entered the octagon 21 times, winning 18 and losing three.
