The Russian Olympic Committee has paid compensation to athletes who were unable to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris. Comments on this DEA News – said the general director of the organization Vladimir Sengleyev.
“We paid compensation to 245 athletes. These are athletes who initially did not receive the right to compete in international competitions, and athletes who did not receive neutral status. We made the last payments on June 23, the All-Russian Olympic Day,” he said.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee issued an appeal to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization decided to accept Russians and Belarusians as neutral athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games at the end of 2023. To participate, they must meet a number of conditions and qualify.
The games will be held in the French capital from July 26 to August 11.
As an alternative, Russia has created the Friendship Games format. The first Friendship Games are scheduled to be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg from September 15 to 29, 2024. The initiator and coordinator of the Friendship Games is the International Friendship Association (IFA). On June 7, the general director of the organizing committee of the Friendship Games, Alexey Sorokin, confirmed the information that the event will be postponed.
