Former France midfielder Emmanuel Petit said Kylian Mbappe is not worthy of wearing the captain’s armband in the national team, German broadcaster NTV reported.
“Kylian Mbappe is not yet worthy of being captain. He is not taking enough responsibility. Petit is not in the best physical condition because he has a broken nose,” he said.
The French national team advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 European Championship in Germany, with French players failing to score a goal throughout the tournament. Moreover, all of France’s goals, except for the penalty shootout against Portugal in the quarter-finals, were own goals. The only exception was Mbappe’s penalty goal in the final group stage match against Poland (1:1).
Mbappe suffered a broken nose in the first match of the tournament against Austria (2-1). He missed the match against the Netherlands (0:0) and returned to action to face the Poles. However, apart from the penalty goal, he made no other impact.
France will face Spain in the semi-finals. The match will be played on Tuesday, July 9, and will start at 22:00 Moscow time. socialbites.ca will conduct an online text broadcast.
