Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchikh spoke about her attitude towards Elena Kulichenko, who changed her Russian sports citizenship to Cypriot, and said that she would not contact her at the Olympics, according to ua.tribuna.com.
“He is very pro-Russian. I remember him from the European Championships, where they were allowed to compete in junior tournaments. If Kulichenko had contacted me, I wouldn’t have contacted him either. I would rather take off the patches,” Maguchikh said.
Maguchikh also said that he was pleased that representatives of Russia and Belarus would not be able to participate in the athletics Olympics.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. However, in December, the IOC allowed Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Olympics with neutral status.
As an alternative, Russia created the Friendship Games format. The first Friendship Games were planned to be held in Moscow and Yekaterinburg from 15 to 29 September 2024. The initiator and coordinator of the Friendship Games is the International Friendship Association (IFA). On June 7, Alexey Sorokin, general director of the Friendship Games organizing committee, confirmed the information that the event would be postponed.
