Stanislav Cherchesov, the former head coach of the Russian national team, responded to information that he could lead the Kazakhstan national team. His words guide the way “Sports Express”.
“Did the President of the Kazakhstan Football Federation say that I am the main candidate? I haven’t talked to anyone yet. Nobody contacted me. Will I be in Moscow on June 3? Yes,” said Cherchesov.
On May 2, Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF) President Adlet Barmenkulov statedCherchesov is the main candidate for the post of head coach of the Kazakhstan national team. Previously, this post was held by Magomed Adiev, who combined duties in the national team and Akhmat Grozny.
Cherchesov started coaching the Russian national team in 2016. In his home World Cup, the team under his leadership managed to reach the quarter-finals, where they lost to the tournament’s finalists, the Croatian national team. He was fired after the team’s unsuccessful performance at the 2020 European Championship, held in the summer of 2021.
Cherchesov took over the leadership of Hungarian Ferencvaros at the end of December 2021. He led the team to victory in the championship and the National Cup. He was fired after being eliminated from Champions League qualification in July 2023.
