The first round of the French Open went well for Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov. Former world third racket, bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympics, founder of the children’s tennis school Nadezhda Petrova said this in a comment to Gazeta.ru.
“Khachanov played with Indian Nagal, who took 95th place in the rating. It was difficult for a short player to handle Karen’s powerful, twisting blows. Khachanov did what he wanted. “He warmed up well, the first lap went very well for him,” said Petrova.
While Khachanov beat Sumit Nagal in three sets, the Russians reached the final match in a tiebreak. The match ended with the score 6:2, 6:0, 7:6 (7:5). In the next round, Khachanov will meet Slovak Josef Kovalik, who eliminated the US representative Marcos Giron from the fight. The match between Khachanov and Kovalik will be played on Thursday, May 30.
On March 6, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced that it has decided to allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to compete in neutral status at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France. Russians and Belarusians will be able to compete in the 2024 Olympics if they comply with the neutral athlete principles previously formulated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
