According to the press service of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS), the discipline “Sambo for the Blind” (sport class SVI1) is included in the program of the 2024 World Sambo Championships, which will be held in Astana from 8 to 10 November.
This decision was beginning to form within the sambo community. FIAS president Vasily Shestakov stated that Sambo wrestlers with health problems showed a great desire to participate in competitions on equal terms with other athletes and showed steely will and fortitude.
Last World Cup passed in Yerevan. According to the decision of FIAS, athletes from Russia, Belarus and France competed in the tournament with neutral status.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization said that in 2023 Russian athletes will be required to sign updated conditions of participation, which include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”.
