Former hockey player Chris Simon has died at the age of 52. This was reported by telegram channel Moscow Dynamo.
Causes of death were not reported.
Simon was born on January 30, 1972 in Ontario. The Canadian player played for the blue-whites in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), at Vityaz near Moscow and at Metallurg Novokuznetsk. Simon played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Chicago Black Hawks, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, New York Islanders and Calgary Flames. He won the Stanley Cup with Colorado in 1996.
In the KHL, the Canadian forward took part in 168 matches and managed to score 41 goals and make 46 assists. In the NHL, Simon scored 144 goals and had 161 assists in 782 games.
The hockey player was known for his strong play and fights. Simon participated in more than 100 fights in the NHL, racked up 1,824 penalty minutes and served the two longest suspensions in league history.
