The Ethics Commission of the International Cycling Union (UCI) suspended the former president of the Ukrainian Cycling Federation, Alexander Bashenko, from office for one year. This has been reported official website of the organization.
“Following the initiation of the case, Bashenko was provisionally suspended and now the UCI Ethics Commission has confirmed that a fine of 5 thousand Swiss francs has been imposed, as well as a suspension for one year, effective from 23 May 2023,” the statement said.
Bashenko was sentenced to a one-year suspension for using offensive language against the federation and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In August 2019, the incumbent was fired from his post as president of the Ukrainian Cycling Federation for using inappropriate language towards European Games winner Anna Solovey.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
