In a conversation with socialbites.ca, Sportmaster PRO expert Sergei Sklizkov told what injuries incorrect skiing technique can cause and how to avoid it.
“The risk of injury when cross-country skiing is small, provided all safety rules are followed and equipment is chosen correctly.
The first danger is going downhill, especially if there are turns along the way. In this case, an inexperienced athlete may lose his balance and fall. That’s why one of the first things beginners are taught is how to fall safely.
The second danger is lack of self-control. Some untrained athletes train too much, overload and overwork themselves, increasing the risk of injury.
To avoid injuries, it is enough to train regularly and devote maximum time and effort to the installation of the technique. It is also necessary to have a quality warm-up before starting any training – this is important for any sport, and especially for winter sports,” said Sklizkov.
