Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova suggested that the Canadian Figure Skating Federation (Skateboarding Canada) will recruit athletes from Russia. He shared his opinion with him “Match TV”.
On February 18, Skate Canada included in the preliminary agenda of the International Skating Union (ISU) Congress an item on simplifying the procedure for changing sports citizenship for figure skaters.
“This means that Canadians cannot train their skaters. Therefore, they are waiting to take our athletes. We have a lot of skaters, Canadians want them to join them and compete for them. Why do we need such an offer? We already have someone to play in the national team. But for figure skating, there are very few people come; this is not a profession for them, not like ours,” said Tarasova.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
Thus, the International Skating Union suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. Although the issue of the return of Russian athletes was brought up at the ISU meeting held in October, it was not brought to the agenda.
Previously Trusova clarified Details of Tutberidze’s participation in the show instead of Valieva.
