Russian Football Union (RFU) General Secretary Maxim Mitrofanov spoke about the attitude of the President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Aleksander Čeferin on the possible separation of the RFU to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). His words are quoted “Sports Express”.
“I personally met with the Chief, his attitude is this: “I do not want to let Russia go. This is the last thing I will do.” He generally takes a protective position. He is in favor of dynamic development, but without shocks. He has a positive and warm attitude towards Russia,” Mitrofanov said.
At a meeting of the RFU Executive Committee on 20 December, all members of the organization considered that a move to Asia without a guarantee from the International Football Federation (FIFA) did not make sense. Dyukov had previously stated that the possibility of moving to Asia remained.
In the spring of 2022, FIFA and UEFA decided to suspend the participation of the Russian national team, as well as all Russian clubs, in all competitions controlled by these organizations.
