RPL approves a nearly double increase in judges’ salaries

At the general meeting of the Russian Premier League (RPL) clubs on 6 June, the issues of increasing the refereeing costs of league matches and regulating the VAR system were discussed.

“The clubs supported the proposal of the RFU refereeing division to increase the refereeing costs to 937.2 million rubles for four seasons, from the previous 775.3 million rubles (2022/23 – 2025/26). Starting next season, the salary of the chief referee of the match is expected to increase, on average, from the current 100,000 rubles to 174,000 rubles per game, the assistant chief referee – from 47,850 rubles per game to 87,000 rubles, ”said the director. Recall that this season of the RPL clubs have had a lot of complaints about the work of the referees. Most often, Leonid Slutsky, the coach of Rubin Kazan, who was fined for several matches and suspended on a conditional basis, spoke with criticism from the referees.

A series of investigations took place, as a result of which some judges had to pass a polygraph test. Many referees were dismissed.
