Dmitry Andreev, sports director of the Russian Premier League (RPL) club “Orenburg”, talked about how the team reacted to the scandal regarding its new player Jordi Thompson. He shared his opinion with him Sports24.
“Thompson’s dark side? And who doesn’t have that? We’ve heard about girl problems. You say it as if he kidnapped 20 girls. We’re not worried about Orenburg’s reputation. So who doesn’t have that?
We didn’t look at it closely. They realized that they would not be able to get such an actor if there were no problems with his girlfriend. We made a fuss when this happened to him. Thompson is a good player with great potential. We helped him. I hope it helps us. We are always interested in a fast player who is not afraid to take risks,” said Andreev.
Thompson remains under house arrest due to harassment allegations against his ex-girlfriend. The management of Chilean club Colo-Colo released Thompson to Orenburg on loan for €1.1 million with the option to buy more.
After 18 rounds in the national championship, Orenburg collected 15 points and took 14th place in the rankings. The second part of the RPL will begin in March 2024.
