The Canadian team lost to the Czech team in the quarter-final match of the World Junior Championship held in Sweden.

The meeting ended with a score of 3:2. Czech Republic took the lead 2-0 in the first period with goals from Jakub Stancl and Tomas Cybulka. Canada was able to come back and tie the score in the second period; Matthew Wood and Jake Furlong scored. The winning goal was scored 11 seconds before the final siren, Stancl scored a double goal and took the Czech team to the semi-finals of the tournament.

To reach the final, the Czech Republic will compete with the Finnish national team, which previously beat Slovakia with a score of 4:3 and won in overtime.

The Canadian team has won the World Junior Championships 20 times, including the title in three of the last four tournaments. Canadians are the current world champions. The team was left without a tournament medal for the first time in five years.

The Russian youth team will miss the World Championship due to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) banning Russia from participating in tournaments under its auspices.
