Hockey player Sportmaster PRO expert Alexander Goldin, in a conversation with socialbites.ca, told how to get rid of leg pain when skating and listed the main causes of this problem.

“This is a serious and common problem. The first possible cause is that the skates are not the right size. In most cases, they are too big. The foot is in the wrong position in the shoe, it hangs from the inside and the heel comes off. Naturally, pain and discomfort occur. Sometimes a thicker insole can be the solution, but ideally you should buy a new pair.

The second reason is that the skate is too soft. Most budget models and some fitness skates do not have adequate ankle support. So you put a lot of effort into keeping your legs straight, but they still fall inwards or outwards. During such skating, the feet are overloaded and hurt. Therefore, I immediately recommend you to choose skates with good durability and enjoy skating, not torture.

The third reason is the characteristics of the arch of the foot. Each person has individual characteristics of the structure of the foot. Skating may be good, but it may not be right for you. Therefore, I recommend trying on several pairs in the same price category and choosing the most comfortable one. You can also wear special insoles shaped according to the characteristics of your foot. This is very good advice for those who have decided to master jumping or play hockey: the foot will get tired and will be less stressed,” said Goldin.
