Alonso is confirmed as the new sporting director of Cruz Azul.

Blue Cross began institutional restructuring after the failure of the Opening 2023 and one of the first decisions was to hire Ivan Alonso as new sports director.

In the absence of signing the contract and the official announcement, Alonso will take the place of Óscar ‘Conejo’ Pérez, who, according to several sources, will take a new position in the light blue team.

WHO IS IVÁN ALONSO?


Alonso is a former Uruguayan footballer who currently works as a manager. As an active footballer, he played for River Plate from Uruguay, Deportivo Alavés, Real Murcia, RCD Espanyol, Toluca, Nacional and River Plate; He worked as a sports director at Pachuca, but that only lasted six months because he was fired for unknown reasons.


THE PACHUCA CONTROVERSY


Alonso arrived in Pachuca in 2022 to lead the sports project, but he remained in office for only six months, when the board led by Armando Martínez decided to stop his process for reasons that raised several speculations.

Just this Wednesday, the Record newspaper revealed that Alonso was fired over a $500,000 diversion in hiring Brazilian Jesús Trindade, with whom he shared a dressing room in Peñarol.


IVÁN ALONSO’S ORGANIZATIONAL CARD


Alonso will lead a project that will be strengthened with the arrival of Argentinian coach Martín Aldasi. The Uruguayan will divide the structure into three parts: football management, high performance management and health management, with the scouting department and basic troops also being restructured, although the project will be determined by objectives.

In addition, directors Héctor Islas, Jorge ‘Vikingo’ Dávalos and José Luis ‘Chato’ Ortega, in addition to Moreno and the ‘Rabbit’, will leave the new project.
