Marcelino García Toral is the new coach of Villarreal after the departure of Pacheta. In his official presentation as coach of the Yellow Submarine last Tuesday, the Asturian coach cried with emotion for his return to the club where he spent four seasons and to which he returned after the call of Fernando Roig. “I am Marcelino García, but my last name is not Salvador or Milagros. We will work with the utmost honesty,” he said in the press room.
On Monday, November 13, Villarreal CF and Marcelino García Toral reached an agreement that the Asturian would be the coach of the Submarino until 2026, the rest of this season and two more.
The team, already led by Marcelino García Toral, held a double training session at the José Manuel Llaneza Sports City on Tuesday, November 14.
The presentation press conference took place on Tuesday from 1:30 PM in the press room of the Estadio de la Cerámica during an event aimed exclusively at the media.
This is Marcelino García Toral’s second phase at the helm of Villarreal CF, a bench he occupied in his first episode as yellow coach from January 2013 to August 2016.
Born in Gijón, Marcelino took charge of a team immersed in the Spanish Second Division and not only achieved direct promotion that same year, but in the three remaining seasons at the head of the entity achieved two consecutive classifications for the dispute of European competitions, reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League and the Copa del Rey and even qualifying the Submarino for the play-off of the UEFA Champions League after reaching fourth place in LALIGA in his last campaign as groguet coach. In total, Marcelino was in charge of Villarreal for 177 matches.
Throughout his professional career, Marcelino has coached teams such as CD Lealtad, Sporting de Gijón B, Sporting de Gijón, Recreativo de Huelva, Racing de Santander, Real Zaragoza, Sevilla, Valencia, Athletic Club and Olympique de Marseille.
