Ekaterina Maklichenko, the lawyer of former Russian national team football player Alexei Bugaev, said that her client is not guilty in the drug trafficking case. The lawyer’s words were quoted “Sports Express”.

“Bugaev didn’t even see this package of drugs, but they gave it to him and told him to put it in the front pocket of his sweatpants, and when they brought the witness, he would have to take out this package and say that it belonged to him, he was going to sell it somewhere. He did everything he was told. It is clear that he did not try to show his true attitude to what was happening, because he was intimidated before this,” Maklichenko said.

On November 1, the Shot Telegram channel reported that Bugaev was detained with 500 grams of mephedrone. A criminal case was opened against the football player, especially for large-scale drug trafficking. He faces up to 20 years in prison. Bugaev also admitted to working as a drug courier and placing bookmarks near the Kuban Agricultural University.

In his professional career, Alexey Bugaev played for Lokomotiv, Krasnodar, Tom, Khimki and Torpedo. The defender played seven matches with the Russian national team and did not score a goal. He decided to quit football in 2010, when he was 29 years old.

Previously reportedHe said that the court chose a preventive measure against Bugaev, a former football player of the Russian national team.
