Australia has abandoned its bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. This was reported on the website of the country’s Football Association (FFA).
“We have reviewed all the factors and concluded that we should not apply to host the 2034 World Cup,” the message said.
The FFA has stated that it will focus on Australia’s bids to host the Women’s Asian Cup in 2026 and the 2029 Club World Cup.
Indonesia and Australia planned to submit a joint bid to host the 2034 World Cup. However, Indonesia later abandoned further competition to host the tournament and supported Saudi Arabia’s bid.
October 31 is the last day for applications. So far, only Saudi Arabia has made an official application.
The hosts of the next two world championships have already been determined. The tournament will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico in 2026, and six countries (Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Morocco, Portugal and Spain) will host the tournament matches for the first time in 2030.
