According to The Tennis Letter on Twitter, Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev said that he still continues his dream of becoming the world’s first racket this season.
“No matter where I play, I always strive to win, so my dream of being number one is still alive. But I know that I am far from that now. Medvedev said at the beginning of 2024 that I should aim for second place so that I can fight for first place.
Medvedev lost to Serbian Novak Djokovic in the US Open final in September. The match ended in three sets with scores of 3:6, 6:7 (5), 3:6. The meeting lasted 3 hours and 17 minutes.
The 36-year-old Serbian tennis player became the oldest champion of the tournament, surpassing the record of Australian tennis player Ken Rosewall (35 years old). Djokovic won the Grand Slam tournament for the 24th time and the US Open for the fourth time. After the tournament, Djokovic overtook Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz from the top of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, while Medvedev remained the third racket on the planet.
