Spanish football club Barcelona is being investigated on suspicion of bribery as part of a police investigation. This was reported by Reuters.
According to the source, on September 28, police raided the offices of the Spanish football federation RFEF in Madrid as part of an ongoing investigation into bribery in the refereeing organization.
At the beginning of 2023, the situation of José Maria Henriques Negreira, former vice president of the technical evaluation committee, became known. Barcelona prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against the club and former presidents Josep Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell over possible corruption and payments to the judge. He received around 7.3 million euros from the Catalan club over 17 years.
It is stated that Barcelona may face heavy penalties if the allegations are confirmed. Thus, the club could be sent to the Segunda Division and banned from European competitions. The club denies all allegations in this case.
