“Given the secrecy and unnecessary delay, the entire process actually undermines justice as all athletes have been deprived of their moment on the podium, which they cannot get back regardless of the outcome of the trial.
I hope the athletes and the public will have some satisfaction once the decision is made,” Tygart said.
A doping scandal broke out around Kamila Valieva during the 2022 Olympics. A banned substance was found in the sample taken by the athlete in December 2021. They wanted to disqualify him from participating in the Games. Literally a day before the start of the women’s individual competition, it was decided to admit her to the tournament.
He did not win a medal in the individual tournament, but took first place in the team championship. In case of a positive decision, the Russian team could lose its team tournament medal. CAS will hold hearings in Valieva’s case between September 26-29.
