One year later (opening 2022), the owners’ meeting and league organizers chose to extend the quota to four foreign players per club. This resource was put to good use by several teams and they filled all their available positions quickly.
After five tournaments since the license to sign foreign footballers was established, only Chivas has kept its roster with Mexican players because of the tradition of the rojiblancos since its foundation in 1906.

How many foreigners are allowed in the men’s MX League?

For the men’s competition, clubs are allowed to take on a maximum of 10 footballers with a foreign position or ‘not trained in Mexico’. However, despite the teams using the maximum number of foreigners, a maximum of eight players will be on the field at a time.
