Sixteen clubs will vie for a coveted spot in the premier league after 30 rounds of action in a double round-robin format, where every team faces every other once at home and once away.
The 2023 Promotion Championship entered its 74th edition on February 10, marking notable returns. Deportes La Serena and Antofagasta come back to the top flight after stints of three and eleven years, respectively, while San Marcos de Arica makes a return after winning the Second Division and rejoining the First B following a one-year absence.
Bravos del Morro reclaimed their place in the second tier of Creole football after a setback in 2021, when a points deduction of 23 was imposed by the ANFP Disciplinary Court due to a misalignment penalty tied to attacker Zederick Vega. The consequence lingered for a season, but the club has since established itself again in the second division.
A total of sixteen clubs participate in the competition, which unfolds over two rounds of fifteen dates each in a full round-robin format. The team that finishes first after the regular phase is crowned champion and earns direct promotion. In the event of a points tie for first, the champion is decided by a single playoff match scheduled by the league’s board of directors, with the date, stadium, and kickoff time determined in advance.
Promotion to the Division of Honor for 2024 hinges on the resolution of the standings behind the first-placed team. The square for the second-placed team is settled in the Liguilla de Ascenso, which includes teams finishing from third to eighth place in home-and-away ties. The three winners of these head-to-head brackets advance, with the addition of the team that finishes in second place, forming a four-team playoff. The eventual winner secures the right to compete in the top division the following year. Conversely, the team occupying the last position on the table is relegated to the Second Division, making way for the higher tier’s representatives through promotion fixtures.
