Russian skier, World Championship bronze medalist Sergei Kryanin commented on the initiative of skier Yulia Stupak to organize a meeting between Russian and foreign athletes on the issue of allowing Russians to participate in international competitions. Kryanin stressed that the suspension of Russian athletes is illegal and dialogue is secondary here.
“I think it’s illegal not to let our athletes go. They have to participate in competitions, sports are out of politics. The strongest athletes in all sports must compete against each other and prove who is the best. And what kind of dialogue could it be – this is the second question. They should not allow illegal means, ”said Kryanin socialbites.ca.
Recall that on January 25, the IOC announced that it is considering the possibility of admitting Russian athletes, who do not support the conduct of a special operation on the territory of Ukraine, to international competitions in a neutral status.
Several countries expressed their disagreement with this position and decided to form a coalition to prevent Russian participation.
IOC President Thomas Bach urged the governments of the countries not to interfere in the issue of the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) decided to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions until the end of last season, and later extended the sanctions. They missed the final stages of the 2021/22 World Cup.
Norwegian skier Holund supported Stupak’s idea of accepting the Russians.
