Wednesday’s trip to Poland felt akin to visiting old friends. The sentiment isn’t just about shared values with Poland; it stems from a mutual commitment to save lives, a sentiment echoed by Olena Zelenska, wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a series of posts on social media.
Education of Ukrainian doctors
The Ukrainian leader arrived in Poland for an official visit, marking the first such trip since the start of the war with Russia in 2022. While the presidents’ spouses, Agata Kornhauser-Duda and Olena Zelenska, pursued separate programs from the main visit, they have long been active in joint efforts focused on training Ukrainian physicians.
“I am pleased to participate again in the meeting with President Andrzej Duda and First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, with whom we share many common points of view”, Zelenska wrote in a string of social media updates. “Together with Agata Kornhauser-Duda, we met Ukrainian medics who were trained in Polish air force facilities in evacuation operations. Our joint project to train several dozen Ukrainian doctors who will assist burn patients is continuing.”
Planned initiatives
The Ukrainian first lady announced additional initiatives to be carried out in partnership with the Polish government in Warsaw. These include training programs for psychologists, psychiatrists, and medical physiotherapists, aimed at strengthening the care system for those affected by conflict.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Mrs. Agata Kornhauser-Duda and all the people in Poland who provided professional and friendly care to our specialists”, Zelenska added.
