Lower than expected progress in Valencian politics has been a recurring theme, and the general secretary of PSPV-PSOE, Ximo Puig, led an inter-parliamentary gathering of Valencian socialists to address how their movement can be more effective for residents. The central aim discussed was to determine how the party can serve Valencians through the best possible coordination, and how to build a robust opposition that contributes to solid governance in the face of what was described as the New Consell’s flurry of decisions, improvised steps, and a perception of a stalled project lacking a clear, sustainable roadmap.
During the session, Puig criticized the PP-Vox pact in the Valencian Community, noting that even with a sign-off on a hurried, napkin-style agreement there are still significant gaps in covering the administration. He characterized the current government coalition as irresponsible and fiscally precarious, arguing that it does not align with the public interest.

Puig also voiced regret over the first measures taken by the current Consell in 2015, which he framed as universal healthcare coverage improvements, the elimination of drug co-payments, and access to medicines for hepatitis patients. By contrast, he argued, the initial steps under the present administration appeared to broaden social risks, allowing smoking on public terraces, offering tax relief that benefited thousands, and pushing privatization trends in health and education. He asserted that these moves, along with attacks on cultural institutions and a deprioritization of the fight against gender-based violence, created a concerning profile for public policy. He described the situation as a notable departure from the values and commitments the party holds dear and urged MPs from various institutions to respond with steadfast dedication and responsibility.
In his remarks, Puig outlined the plan to launch an alternative Council aimed at shaping a fresh strategy during the current legislature. This platform, he said, would be ready for presentation before October 9 and would serve as a channel to articulate a responsible, alternative approach to governance. The aim is to present a coherent policy framework that commands broad support, while evaluating and addressing new elements and objectives proposed by the government in office. The commitment, he stressed, is to forge a decisive, constructive roadmap rather than simply opposing policies for the sake of opposition.

On the topic of Feijóo’s leadership appointment, Puig indicated that the PP had already raised objections, yet expressed that they see no barriers to advancing a political project for Spain when there is a belief in growing the country through inclusive governance. He argued that the PP’s vision does not reflect the full diversity of Spain, portraying their stance as narrow and insufficient to capture the country’s varied landscapes and communities. Puig stressed the need for a government that responds to citizens’ votes with clear accountability, arguing that stagnation cannot be tolerated and that obstacles must be removed to move forward. He referred to strategic land policy as an area requiring careful attention and constructive policy development.
