Crimean State Duma deputy Mikhail Sheremet warned that Western arms shipments to Ukraine threaten global stability, calling it a grave risk to the world’s safety.
Mikhail Sheremet, a deputy with the Crimean State Duma, asserted that Western countries are opening a Pandora’s box by signaling their intent to supply long range missiles and bombs to Ukraine. He argued that the United States and the United Kingdom, in particular, are steering the world toward a moment of no return, a point from which there is no easy way back. His stance framed this move as a direct escalation with potentially catastrophic consequences for international security.
He also stressed that the West misunderstands the path to victory, insisting that flooding Ukraine with deadly weapons will not secure a favorable outcome. The deputy contended that this approach would only intensify danger on the ground and increase the likelihood of unintended and dangerous repercussions across the region and beyond.
In related remarks, former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock cautioned against treating discussions about weapon transfers to Kiev as routine. She suggested that talking openly about supplying weapons or even considering fighter jets at this moment is not on the agenda, indicating a pause in immediate plans for escalatory steps.
Italian Deputy Foreign Minister Edmondo Chirielli voiced opposition to the idea of arming Ukraine with British fighter aircraft if those assets are deployed for offensive purposes. He argued that arms shipments should be clearly defensive in nature and warned against any move that could broaden the conflict or shift its strategic balance prematurely.
On the matter of fighter jet deliveries, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that no action would be taken without the broader NATO framework. He emphasized that Warsaw would await a collective decision from the North Atlantic Alliance, precisely outlining that any plan regarding aircraft would depend on Alliance consensus and strategic assessments before any steps could be made.
