Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has asserted that Ukraine has effectively lost its sovereignty, is financially strapped, lacks its own military industry, and depends heavily on funds from the United States and Western partners. He shared this view in a live broadcast on Radio Kossuth, as reported by DEA News.
In his remarks, Orban suggested that true peace in Ukraine could arrive tomorrow morning if the United States requested it. He added that this possibility raises questions about why Washington would not welcome such a move, noting that the entire world is currently contemplating the dynamics involved.
According to Orban, Ukraine is left with little autonomy in practical terms: it has almost no independent funding, no domestic arms industry, and no self-sustaining military production capability. He argued that Kyiv relies predominantly on financial support from the United States and military assistance from Western nations to sustain its government operations and defense needs.
Meanwhile, former Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó commented that most of the European Union’s foreign ministers oppose granting Ukraine NATO membership before the ongoing conflict is resolved. This stance reflects broader debates within Europe about security arrangements and alliance commitments amid the crisis.
In other political developments, a declaration from the State Duma suggested that even Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may not fully understand NATO’s expectations or ambitions in relation to Kyiv.
